Previous Mission Trips
First Baptist Church, Pompano Beach, FL
This was one of Anchor Ministries' first mission trips to the islands. We worked with youth from First Baptist Church of Pompano. We traveled to Bimini, Bahamas for a week of vacation Bible school. We had VBS at Mount Zion Baptist Church just north of Alice Town in Bimini. We had over 150 children turn out for a week of Bible studies, games, crafts, and songs. During free time students snorkeled, walked on the beach, visited Bimini's famous Straw Market, and ate a lot of Bahamian food. The trip was a great to success to all who participated.
Charlotte Christian School, Charlotte, NC
We had a senior high school group come down from Charlotte, NC to participate in a trip to Bimini. While on the island the group worked with youth in the schools showing films and ministering to the children during recess. We worked with the Community Church of God where we did a rally in the church one evening. One of our first contact churches in Bimini, Mount Zion Baptist Church, suffered from severe erosion due to last hurricane season and the church stood in danger of losing a portion of its grounds unless a seawall was constructed. Our mission team worked with local islanders to restore the seawall back to its original condition.
Open Door Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa, AL
Back to Bimini with a group from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Youth from Open Door Baptist Church traveled to Bimini to help with Vacation Bible School and do street evangelism. We worked with the Community Church of God in an afternoon VBS program where the average daily attendance was around 150 children. The group led a youth rally at a local park where they sang, acted out dramas, and presented the gospel to the Bahamian kids. After the presentation, more than 20 children prayed to receive Christ.
Anchor Ministries set out for a new island to begin ministering to. Along with 20 youth from Spanish River Presbyterian Church in Boca Raton, we traveled to Nassau, Bahamas to lead another VBS. Anchor Ministries and Spanish River youth worked with Pastor Timothy Stewart of Bethel Baptist Church in New Providence, Bahamas in the oldest Baptist Church in the islands. We led 5 fun filled days of activities with an average attendance of around 170 children. Activities included songs, movies, crafts, outdoor games, chapel, and lunch. On the fifth day of VBS, we had over 50 kids pray to recieve Christ. We hope to be able to continue to minister to Nassau in the future.
